United Materials’ environmental compliance programs support safe, responsible operations at every one of our Western New York facilities, from plant yards to project sites. We treat compliance as a daily commitment to doing the right thing for our neighbors, our customers, and the places we call home.
Corporate Environmental Compliance
As part of Votorantim Cimentos North America, United Materials follows environmental compliance programs that turn high standards into everyday habits. These programs are grounded in Our VC Way values of Lasting Results and Sustainable Legacy, so every decision we make today supports long-term value for people, the environment, and the communities where we operate.
Our dedicated Environmental Health and Safety team provides hands-on oversight of regulatory compliance, internal audits, and training, making sure our crews have the knowledge and tools to work safely and responsibly. Their work connects our local operations to broader initiatives in emissions tracking, energy efficiency, and responsible resource use that reflect VCNA’s long-term sustainability vision.
Sustainability-Focused
Our environmental compliance initiatives are designed to support real, measurable progress, not just check boxes.
Key focus areas include:
Maintaining documented environmental management practices at our ready-mix plants, including procedures for water use, materials handling, and emissions control.
Using site-specific plans for spill prevention, stormwater management, and proper waste segregation and recycling to help protect nearby land and waterways.
Participating in broader corporate programs aimed at monitoring and reducing greenhouse gas emissions through energy conservation, responsible fuel use, and continual performance review.
Together, these efforts help ensure our operations deliver consistent results for customers while contributing to a more sustainable built environment in Western New York.
Blended Cement Materials
United Materials incorporates blended cement products such as Portland Limestone Cement Type IL, Blended Slag Cement Type IS, and Blended Silica Fume Cement Type IP, in concrete mixes where permitted by project specifications and standards, helping lower the carbon intensity of our products while maintaining performance. Each product is evaluated and verified through testing, approvals, and ongoing quality control to align with relevant codes and industry standards.
Our blended cements offer lower-carbon concrete options that meet expectations for durability, strength, and constructability in the field.
Supplementary Cementitious Materials
United Materials incorporates supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs), such as slag, fly ash, and silica fume, in concrete mixes where permitted by project specifications and standards, helping lower the carbon intensity of our products while maintaining performance. Each SCM source is evaluated and verified through testing, approvals, and ongoing quality control to align with relevant codes and industry standards.
EPD Readiness
United Materials is ready to provide Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) when projects call for transparent environmental data. These documents give design teams, agencies, and owners clear life cycle information that can support procurement decisions, sustainability certifications, and carbon reduction targets.
By weaving EPD readiness into our environmental compliance programs, we help project teams demonstrate responsible material choices today while contributing to the long-term vision of a lower-carbon, more resilient construction industry, one project and one pour at a time.
